Senior Backend Engineer for a global, remote-first company

Job Description:

Reporting to the Head of Technology, you will:

• Have a key role in developing and maintaining MAT’s platforms

• Be a technical leader within the MAT team

• Collaborate with experienced developers and QA analysts

• Make use of great tools and techniques including AWS, GitHub, JavaScript, Django, Python and PostgreSQL to deliver great software and maintain the technology platform

Responsibilities

• Work in a cross-functional agile team to support MAT platforms

• Focus on infrastructure, tools, automation and security but be expected to contribute to all levels of the stack

• Take ownership of the RPR infrastructure and be a go-to person for AWS and tools understanding and problem resolution

• Design, build and configure infrastructure components within the AWS environment

• Ensure MAT’s cloud infrastructure is secure and managed, configuring and deploying security controls and management tools

• Write great code and deliver tested and functionally complete software components that meet requirements

• Help drive quality and improve testing, delivery processes and tooling

• Collaborate with colleagues and stakeholders taking opportunities to learn and lead as they arise

• Offer technical support and leadership as required to MAT colleagues

• Think imaginatively about problems and give your opinion and listen to others

Experience and Expertise

• You will have at least 6 years of professional experience in software development or DevOps

• You will have strong AWS infrastructure, tools and systems management experience combined with full-stack web development skills

• You will have practical knowledge of AWS and you will know how to design and configure AWS services to support development and operations

• You will be able to write high-quality code and documentation

• You will have experience with two or more of the following: Python, Django, JavaScript, AngularJS/Angular, PostgreSQL

• You will understand the importance of security and will be able to implement key security controls within the AWS infrastructure

• You will understand DevOps principles and be able to apply them in a small company

• You will have experience of configuring CI, CD, release management and automated testing tools and will be used to working with tools like GitHub, Jira, Jenkins, Selenium

• You will have strong problem-solving skills and great attention to detail

• You will have excellent communication and collaboration skills and enjoy working in a team environment with remote colleagues

MAT’s platforms are developed and maintained by a small and growing agile technology team. With offices in the UK and India, we work remotely.

We hold daily stand-ups over video and work closely together, communicating frequently throughout the day using a combination of Slack, Zoom and e-mail.
