Data Science Lead (NLP)

Machine Learning is hard, wide and tedious. Production Machine Learning, even more so. At Verloop, we consider ourselves engineers first with a focus of moving the needle and Deep Learning/NLP as a means to that.

Our team is small, nimble and young. Our teammates includes FastAI Fellows, contributors to PyTorch, active open source contributors, a published author and a PyCon India 2019 Invited speaker.

As a business, we are not dependent on Venture Capital for salaries, which come from revenues -- even post-COVID. Venture Capital helps us drive growth. That is one reason we focus on being small, excellent and nimble over moving fast and breaking things.

We're looking for amazing Data Science early-career folks who are looking to explore the Data Science Management career track. We hope your steady head to help the young hands execute and accomplish amazing things.

What you might look like
Worked on Natural Language Processing (or Computer Vision)
Experience in Deploying ML Systems to Production
Engineering mindset >> Research Mindset
Between 3-7 years of ML experience

Technical Know-how

• Fluency with descriptive and inferential statistics
• Fluency in deep learning for natural language processing basics equivalent to cs224n
• Fluency in deployment & development hygiene e.g. CI/CD, integrated testing, code reviews, enforce coding standards
• Big Bonus: Past experience with Data Engineering and Data Annotation processes

The adjacent problems include: Data Quality Monitoring and Automated Data Exploration

Project Skills

• Ability to scope down machine learning projects and estimate shipping times
• Ability to develop experimental designs and review project design plans with attention to detail

Management Skills

• Define team objectives
• Scope projects, set feature expectations and select evaluation metrics
• Interviewing and hiring, Coaching fresh grads

Personal Skills

• Strong comfort with written communication
• Excellent social and organizational skills
• Ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks and negotiate on deadlines when needed
